Treasure trove of words, photos & special moments

The long-drop

for Brandon & Ethan….holiday buddies Mahinepua, New Year 2014.

For every upside,
there is a downside.

The up –
water so clear
we see fishes
swim around our legs.

The down –
steep stairs to climb
to the outside toilet;
home to mosquitoes and spiders.

I flee back
down the stairs.
It’s smelly, there’s bugs,
I scream and cry.

Mum rushes to the bach,
into her bag she delves.
Bandana wrapped around my face.
“Cowboys overcome”, whispers Mum.

There is an upside,
for every downside.
